I love love love this song.

You got a fast car
I want a ticket to anywhere
Maybe we make a deal
Maybe together we can get somewhere
...
You got a fast car
But is it fast enough so we can fly away
We gotta make a decision
We leave tonight or live and die this way

I remember we were driving driving in your car
The speed so fast I felt like I was drunk
City lights lay out before us
And your arm felt nice wrapped 'round my shoulder
And I had a feeling that I belonged
And I had feeling I could be someone, be someone, be someone

(Tracy Chapman, Fast Car)

Hey Jo, i couldn't help but reply to this....:) when i first heard this song it was way back when i was in jc...from the beginning of the song with its poignant guitar rifts playing ever so beautifully, i was simply entranced...it seemed so alluring yet melancholic in a way that didn't quite match the cynicism that i felt during that period of my life....the lyrics were just sheer poetry...graceful and so compelling in the depth of emotions which it embodies...

"You got a fast car
But is it fast enough so we can fly away
We gotta make a decision
We leave tonight or live and die this way"

this stanza simply blows me away every time i listen to her sing....the formidable obstacles that stand before us in life can render every decision we make seem like a matter of life and death and yet to me the song spoke most truly of the beauty of what it is to have that special someone by your side.....that after all, the 'fast car' we all seek could very well be 'our better half'

"And I had a feeling that I belonged
And I had feeling I could be someone, be someone, be someone"
